Proposed Improvements to MMAP

On June 17, 2011 Health Canada issued a release outlining some of its proposed improvements to the Marihuana Medical Access Program.

The release has caused quite a stir in the medical marijuana community and so we would like to point out a few things about the release that will hopefully address some of the community's fears.

Protecting patients, growers and doctors

From the very beginning, we, the people behind MedicalMarijuana.ca, have prided ourselves on providing quality information and services to the benefit of the medical marijuana community. We look forward to continuing to do so through this uncertain period. Our goal is to continue to stay up to date on these proposed improvements and by doing so, keep you up to date.

Past that we will do everything we can to make sure our patients, growers and partner doctors' interests are best served through these proposed improvements.

No timelines

It is important to note that for all the information contained in this release from Health Canada there is no reference to a timeline for this change to take place. The transition to a new system will not be a speedy process, we believe this will take place over a long period of time.

Phases, feedback and consultations

As it stands all Health Canada outlined is a proposed process for improvement with few concrete steps or ideas. Health Canada understands that these kind of changes will require consultation, several phases and surely an ongoing debate as to what is the best process and result.

Most importantly, Health Canada clearly states that new applications and renewals are still being processed as usual.

For the time being this means life as usual for us here at MedicalMarijuana.ca. We strongly recommend getting any new applications, needed changes or renewals into Health Canada that you might require sooner than later.
